They have one son, Rob who is a career naval officer. Rob, his wife, Tracie, and their son, Cole, currently live in Silverdale, Washington.

Family and Ministry Background

Some people call him Dr. Bob because he holds a Doctor of Education from the Fischler Graduate School of Education at Nova Southeastern University, Miami, Florida. He also attended the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC where he earned a Masters of Divinity with Biblical Languages. His undergraduate degree is from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC. Bob is an educator and has been called on to serve as adjunct professor of leadership with several seminaries and universities.

Bob enjoys traveling, speaking and engaging in mission projects both in the USA and around the world. He has conducted conferences, workshops, revivals, and preaching services in numerous countries, including Germany, Ukraine, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and Cuba and several other Caribbean Islands. He has also led preaching, Bible teaching and mission projects in several states in North America.

One such overseas trip, in June of 2001, was historic. While serving on the Commission of Human Rights and Justice of the Baptist World Alliance, Bob Hylton was invited to participate in a forum on peace and justice at the capital building in Havana, Cuba. This meeting was a historic opportunity marking the first time since 1959 the Cuban government has allowed open dialogue with evangelical Christian leaders from around the world. The conference concluded with more than 3500 Cuban Christians gathered for praise and worship in the capital arena. This worship experience was remarkable as Christian believers gathered from across the country under the banner “Cuba for Christ” with official Cuban government approval. One of the highlights of this mission was the opportunity for Bob to preach to a local congregation in Havana during one of the church gatherings.

Commitment to Christ

Bob and Wanda became Christians together in Greensboro, NC at the Clifton Road Baptist Church. One evening while attending revival services with some neighborhood friends, both Bob and Wanda committed their lives to Christ as young adults 20 years of age. Shortly thereafter, Bob and Wanda relocated to Reidsville, NC and joined the Baptist Temple Church. As members of this church, they began to grow in their faith and commitment to Christ. Bob became a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for young adults and Wanda was a Sunday School teacher for high school girls.

While serving at Baptist Temple Bob and Wanda felt God’s call to devote their lives to ministry. Following God’s call to ministry meant completing college and seminary. These years were difficult yet rewarding. Much of their life was centered on the scripture “Seek first the kingdom of God and all else that you need will be supplied.” (Matthew 6:33) The Father never failed to meet their needs. While in seminary, Bob served the Stevens Memorial Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC and following graduation Bob was called to pastor in Florida.

Initially, Bob and Wanda felt the desire to serve as foreign missionaries. However, after spending time in Honduras as mission volunteers, they became convinced God had other plans. Upon graduating from seminary Bob was called to the First Baptist Church of Sarasota, FL to begin full-time church ministry. Together Bob and Wanda have a strong sense of the Lord’s call to ministry.
